Ophion
Acrylic, 2019
Ophion is the serpent God who ruled the Earth with Eurynome (often credited as the mother of the three Graces). Ophion is also considered by some to be the first Titan God of Greek mythos. He was cast down to Oceanus, the primordial sea.
In this painting, Eurynome is represented by the nest of eggs, as their cosmic forms are commonly pictured as such in historical paintings of Greek myth.
Ophion and Eurynome, cast down from Heaven together, reflect on the fight for dominion amongst God and Goddess— for who is right, and who is wrong.
