Thaumaturgy

Acrylic, 2019

Thaumaturgy: “the act of working wonders or miracles; magic.”

A large majority of my work contains wings of some sort. I’m drawn specifically to the fragility and fleeting nature of butterflies and moths. Insects being such a key portion of our ecosystem despite their size and lifespan speaks to the grandness of our planet. These small creatures pollinating our plants and aiding ultimately in the survival of humanity and animal life alike deserve more recognition and I am endlessly fascinated by the large variety of shapes and sizes present in this little beings.

The fox and the snake are gazing upon each other. Why have we been given wings? Have they sprouted overnight? Shall we frolic and pollinate and enjoy the gentle breeze as the moths do? A reconsideration to enjoy a more gentle approach to life than to perform as predator.
